It’s a terrifying time for human creatives and arts. You have AI open-access applications like ChatGPT intelligently writing essays, forming trip itineraries, and doing all sorts of things that we could’ve only dreamed of before. Then you have AI visual art generators that can make whole artworks from mere prompts, although it’s been mired with ethical issues. Now, if you’ve heard this VIRAL song on TikTok, you would’ve thought that Drake and The Weeknd had a FIRE collaboration. But nope, that’s all AI-generated.

We were bopping along to the music as it features the signature voices of the two hottest artists of our generation. The song is called “Heart on my Sleeve,” and was originally uploaded on Apple Music and Spotify by user Ghostwriter before making its way to TikTok. He claimed that he was a ghostwriter for years and got paid pennies for his major contributions to numerous top hits. His one line is so simple yet terrifying: “The future is here.”

Conventional media labels are doing their best to prevent AI music from ripping off human talents. While current laws do not cover these “parodies,” companies claim that the material that the AI uses to train and get the voices from are all copyrighted content. As such, Ghostwriter’s content was promptly ripped from its original channels of upload.

But that didn’t stop YouTubers from supporting and even remastering the song. Commenters claim that while this wouldn’t have been possible without voice samples from Drake and The Weeknd, the creator still went through the process of writing and singing the song himself before programming AI voices over it. There’s huge support for the artist to upload the original and most are looking forward to what AI can create next.
