NOT ENOUGH: Samsung Might Kill Off 128GB For S23 Series

Back in the day, Apple was often ridiculed for not providing MicroSD card storage most of the Android options had one. Slowly though, it faded away from the flagship scene alongside the 3.5mm headphone jack. This was apparently a necessary step for smartphone design to move forward, but we have our doubts as the last Samsung flagships to have one were the lukewarm S20 Ultra and the legendary Note 20 Ultra. Now, it seems that Samsung has decided 128GB is no longer sufficient storage for its flagship S23 lineup.

The standard of what is perceived to be a decent amount of storage only seems to rise as the years pass. With 128GB taking the place of 64GB as the accepted minimum just a couple of years ago, leaksters claim there’s a high likelihood that Samsung might just kill off 128GB and go straight to 256GB. There are multiple possible factors for this: first, Android has now taken more space than ever. Despite a smartphone or device coming with X amount of storage, around 20GB goes to Android and One UI. With more software functionality in the future especially for these flagship devices, that number might just go higher and higher.

Another reason why could be to justify a substantial price increase yet again. If the base models were to jump in price, Samsung can now justify one with the reasoning that the base variant now has more storage than ever before. With this, the price-sensitive flagship buyers (which there are more of than you think!) are more likely to be appeased.

If this is to come true, then the base RAM options on the S23 and S23+ are expected to be at 8GB. That brings the base S23 and S23+ models to 8/256GB configurations. Meanwhile, for the top-of-the-line Ultra, it will come with more RAM at 12GB instead. That makes sense since the cutting-edge device is built and engineered specifically for power users.

Of course, these are all still rumors for now. Outlets like SamMobile have confirmed that the vanilla Samsung Galaxy S23 will still have 128GB options made available to the public. It does seem like such a radical move to do so at this point in time. If ALL the rumors hold true though, then this is just as wild as Samsung also axing the curved display in favor of a flat panel.

Nonetheless, everything will come to light at the next Samsung Unpacked.

What do you think? Is 128GB still enough in today’s day and age? Let us know below!
