Smart continues to assert is dominance with 5G connectivity in the Philippines based on the April 2022 report of Opensignal. In Opensignal’s report, Smart has outright dominated practically all categories pertaining to 5G connectivity. It has the best 5G download speed in the Philippines at 149.9Mbps and has the best 5G availability in the Philippines at 14.7% coverage–as compared to 8.8% for Globe.

The April 2022 report also elaborated that Smart remains dominant with 5G connectivity in the Calabarzon, Central Luzon, and Central Visayas regions.

The only 5G category Smart did not win is with 5G video experience–in that category, Globe narrowly beats Smart with 71.2 points (vs Smart’s 67.9 points). On Opensignal’s regional analysis, Globe dominates against Smart in 5G video experience in Metro Manila and Calabarzon.

For all 5G-related reports, DITO is not included in Opensignal’s findings despite already having a 5G home broadband service since the country’s third telco has yet to commercially launch a 5G mobile service to rival those being offered by both Smart and Globe.

All three telcos are focused in expanding its 5G coverage in the Philippines. As of Opensignal’s April 2022 report, Globe claims that they have at least 96% 5G coverage in Metro Manila and 84% for key cities in Visayas and Mindanao. Smart, on the other hand, was able to deploy 6400 5G base transciever stations. In addition to that, Smart is also working with Samsung for implementing 5G Standalone Access (SA), which should enable newer technologies like Network Slicing and Voice over New Radio (VoNR).

Outside of Smart’s dominance with 5G, Opensignal revealed interesting findings for DITO: while it is still trailing behind Smart and Globe, DITO has the best regional availability nationwide–specifically in regions like Calabarzon, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Central Visayas, Davao, Western Visayas, Soccskargen, and Metro Manila–for its 4G connectivity.
