With the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup ongoing, Smart ensures that those watching the basketball matches get a great connection inside the venue. Recently, Smart conducted speed tests at Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, where it was able to attain download speeds of up to 1Gbps–which is a feat for the telco giant.Â
In addition to deploying more LTE and 5G networks at FIBA Basketball World Cup venues such as Smart-Araneta Coliseum, SM Mall of Asia Arena, and Philippine Arena in collaboration with Huawei and Ericsson, PLDT is also establishing a Command Center at Smart Tower and mobilizing dedicated teams to monitor network performance during the event, scheduled to take place from August 25 to September 10. This is to ensure that fans get to have a good internet experience while watching the FIBA matches.Â
Aside from improving internet connectivity at the venues for the FIBA matches, Smart also improved connectivity at the FIBA World Congress venue at Sofitel, the hotels of delegates and foreign media attendees, and the practice game venues. Multi-Element on Wheels (MEOW) facilities have also been added to Smart’s network to improve coverage and capacity.
These efforts are essential to ensure everyone gets good internet coverage for the whole duration of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup in the Philippines.
