With the X80 Pro, vivo is set to shake up the premium flagship segment, as it plans to bring it to the Philippines. We’re excited at vivo’s first flagship offering in months, and there are a few notable things that makes the X80 Pro a very exciting phone. We tried the X80 Pro for a few days, and here’s what we like so far:
That HUGE in-display fingerprint scanner. vivo pioneered in-display fingerprint scanners with the X21 back in 2018, and various brands have adopted the tech since then. vivo is stepping up its in-display fingerprint tech on the X80, as you get a significantly larger sensor area that helps in securely unlocking the phone faster and more accurate than current in-display fingerprint scanners.
It’s nice to see vivo making this piece of tech a reality, as we have been waiting for its actual implentation ever since we saw it on the brand’s APEX concept phones.
Quality display. Every flagship phone deserves a top-caliber display, and the X80 Pro has that. We’re talking about a curved 6.78-inch Quad HD+ LTPO3 AMOLED display with a 120hz refresh rate, 1000hz touch response rate, and support for 10-bit color. The colors on the X80 Pro’s display are stellar and typical of what you expect on a premium flagship device.
Cameras made even better. Ever since partnering with Zeiss with the X60 series, vivo has been serious with camera performance for its X series. For the X80 Pro, vivo gave it a STACKED camera setup that consists of a 50-megapixel f/1.6 main camera with OIS and laser autofocus, 48-megapixel f/1.9 ultra-wide-angle camera with autofocus, and two telephoto cameras: one being a 12-megapixel f/2.0 portrait camera with 2x optical zoom and PDAF, and an 8-megapixel periscope camera with 5x optical zoom and PDAF.
Aside from the Zeiss T* coating, the X80 Pro adds vivo’s V1+ ISP to improve post-processing for both photos and videos. Check out some of the sample photos we shot with the X80 Pro:
Top-notch internals. Aside from a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, you also get 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage on the X80 Pro. These are what we expect on a 2022 premium flagship, and keeping the lights on is a 4700mAh battery that supports 80w wired charging and 50w wireless charging to get you up and ready quickly.
Together with a huge vapor chamber and a 23-layer heat dissipation system, the X80 Pro is also suitable even for gaming.
Build that scream flagship. Huge camera bump aside, the X80 Pro has a glass back with a smudge-resistant matte finish that’s way better than the glossy backs we’ve been accustomed to. Aside from its aluminum and glass build, vivo also incorporated an IP68 rating on the X80 Pro to give you peace of mind from splashes. You also get stereo speakers on the X80 Pro, along with a large vapor chamber to keep temps stable during heavy loads.
