Changan Uni-K And Uni-T Just Released: Approachable Luxury

Changan Motor Philippines Inc. (CMPI) has been quite successful in the Philippines with its models. We’ve reviewed and raved about the CS35 Plus, CS55 Plus, and CS75 models which you can find here. Today, the brand surprised everyone by unveiling not one, but two new automobiles for the Philippine market. These are the all-new Changan Uni-T and Uni-K models.

Changan Uni-T

Let’s start off with the smaller one of the two. The Changan Uni-T comes with what the brand calls as the “Diamond-shaped borderless front grille” which definitely lends it a stunning look. It takes up quite the amount of space on the vehicle’s front fascia and reaches all the way to the front lights, shaped like a boomerang in Changan’s “Vision-V” concept.

Look at this little “Illuminate the Future” text.

Another point of interest is the rear spoiler. It’s also shaped in a V-pattern which is extremely unique and attention-grabbing. When the hatch is open, it looks like a fighter plane using its flaps to maneuver in mid-air. According to Changan, this aids the vehicle’s stability at high speeds but we’d love to test this claim out for ourselves.

Want to enter the interior? Let the hidden door handles deploy first. Yep, these are available on both the Changan Uni-T and Uni-K models, although they work a little differently.

Inside the cabin is what we’ve come to expect from the brand at this point. A streamlined design that puts everything in a convenient location for everyday use. It’s not short on tech either, with a six-speaker Sony audio system to top it all off.

Under the hood, we have a 1.5-liter Blue Core Turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injection (TGDi) engine that outputs 179 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed DCT. With three driving modes (Normal, Eco, Sport), you won’t ever fall short on both excitement and efficiency.

The Changan Uni-T retails for a price of PHP 1,679,000.

Changan Uni-K

On the other hand, the Changan Uni-K is a symbol of what the brand can make when they go all-out. It’s called “elegance incarnate” within the lineup, after all.

At the front is a Hexagonal Grille Pattern Design with Trident DRLs and Starship Headlights stylishly placed at the edges. Unlike the Uni-T, there’s a gap between the grille and the lights, but it emits a different charm that’s more mysterious and understated. It goes without saying that this is classy as well. Despite the more lowkey design, the designers didn’t forget to incorporate signature brand elements such as the Airship rear spoiler and 21-inch alloy wheels without looking tacky or out of place.

Same retracting door knobs here. Definitely a nice touch.

Leap into the cabin and you’d immediately notice how upscale it feels. It’s still familiar, but small changes make it feel more luxurious than anything they’ve released in the past. It has a quadruple-screen layout for the instrument cluster; you may think it’s overkill, but these all show essential information. The left section displays tire pressure and door conditions; the middle section shows vehicle speed, augmented reality real-view navigation, multimedia interface, and vehicle status; and the right section comprises a digital rear-view mirror, tachometer, and fuel gauge.

Our personal favorites are the well-appointed leather seats and the incorporated Sony audio systems in the headrests. In total, there are twelve speakers that make up this system. We haven’t seen the headrest audio done quite often but it’s an impressive addition, especially for the Changan Uni-K.

Loading essentials and other travel gear come easy with its Electric Tailgate with InductionSensor that lets you open the cargo door hands-free when it senses your foot under the rear bumper.

Changan has never been one to skimp on advanced safety features and they haven’t changed that with these Uni crossovers. Their Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) can achieve Level 2 autonomous driving with an abundance of advanced active safety features. Among these: Blind Spot Detection Warning (BSDW) that triggers visual and audio alerts for rear side warning, door opening and lateral warnings; Lane Keeping Assist (LKA); Automated Emergency Braking (AEB); Integrated Adaptive Cruise Control (IACC) with Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), Electronic Stability Control (ESC); Lane Departure Warning (LDW); Front Collision Warning (FCW).  Rear Cross Traffic Alert among others.

The Changan Uni-K retails for a price of PHP 2,719,000.
