To take advantage of its 5G network in the country, DITO Telecommunity will soon offer a wireless home broadband service. The broadband service will be available as early as the fourth quarter of this year.
“We know that this is the faster way of providing fixed broadband services to the home. Short and medium-term, we are going to do the 5G FWA (fixed wireless access) as our means of providing that service, but eventually, we are going to fiber-to-the-home,” according to DITO Chief Technology Officer Rodolfo Santiago.
He further added that the telco is already conducting user-friendly tests for the service. Meanwhile, DITO Chief Administrative Officer Adel Tamano said the wireless home broadband service should be available by the fourth quarter of 2021.
Just this August, DITO Telecommunity officially hit the 2 million subscriber mark. The company was able to cover 200 cities nationwide within the span of 5 months. For this month of September, DITO will offer its mobile services to 53 more areas, giving them a total of 286 areas by the end of this month.
Chief Administrative Officer Adel Tamano said the telco gains 20,000 new subscribers each day. As of writing, they already have 2.6 million subscribers in the country, all within the span of 9 months. This is why the company is projecting to end this year with a total of 6 million subscribers.
DITO is committed to cover 84% of the population by the end of its fifth year of commercial operations. To achieve this goal, the company is investing a total of Php 250 billion. They already spent Php 150 billion last year and are looking to spend an additional Php 26 billion this year. According to the most recent performance audit, the company is doing well in terms of its commitment to the NTC.
