Netflix Wants You To Get Other People Off Your Account Via Profile Transfer

Netflix really, really wants you to boot people mooching off of your account, and the company has introduced a new feature dubbed Profile Transfer to facilitate it. Announced a few days ago, the new feature has made its way to the Philippines, and beginning today users can start transferring full profiles including recommendations, viewing history, My List, settings, saved games, and more – to their own account that they pay for. Netflix says that the feature is completely voluntary, and

Why the new feature? Well, according to Netflix’s own press release, “People move. Families grow. Relationships change.” To be fair to the streaming company, being able to Netflix, and being able to transfer your profile to your own account sounds like a good idea. If you currently ended a relationship and still want to keep all your recommendations and viewing history with you (and don’t want to start over), this is the move you’ll need to take. Same if you don’t want to share your account with your parents anymore when you move out – just make your profile into a new account, and you’re golden.

Mostly though, Netflix wants more people to start paying for their own accounts, seeing as the company is looking into more ways of increasing profitability. The company recently released a more affordable, ad-supported tier, and also plans to charge additional users by early next year. It’s already seeing stiffer competition in SEA specifically in the Philippines via other streaming platforms. Amazon Prime Video dropped its price to a measly Php 149 a month to convince more people to join, and entertainment behemoth Disney has just announced that their streaming service, Disney+, will be arriving in the Philippines next month.
