Not impressed with the specs of OG OPPO A78 5G in the Philippines? We have good news – the brand has announced they’re launching a new version of their smartphone that should perform better than the original model.

The new OPPO A78 variant in the Philippines retains the same external design but has a revamped processor, screen as well as storage. The improved A78 comes packing 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of internal, expandable storage, which is double the capacity of the original A78.

The new OPPO A78 variant also has a better full HD+ screen (the old one was stuck in HD+ only), though the screen is a little smaller at 6.4 inches. It still has a 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch sampling rate though.

The biggest change is the processor, which sees OPPO swapping out the MediaTek 700 chipset for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 chip. That’s a nice change as the MediaTek 700 felt a little underpowered in our review.

The battery is still pegged at 5000mAh, though OPPO has increased charging speeds to 67W thanks to their SuperVOOC fast charger.

The cameras are still pretty much the same, but there are a lot of improvements here that the new version of the phone might be worth a second look.

It retails at a much lower price too, as the new OPPO A78 is priced at just Php 13,999 vs the original which came in at Php 14,999.
