Aside from a processor upgrade and slightly improved ergonomics, the other key upgrade to the Galaxy S23 Ultra is its all-new 200-megapixel main camera, which is an upgrade from the 108-megapixel shooter that has been used since the Galaxy S20 Ultra. A lot of people have raved about the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s camera performance, which makes us wonder: how good are the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s cameras? For DxOMark, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is just at par with the vivo X90 Pro+, which means that it also got a score of 140, making it qualify for DxOMark’s top 10 smartphone list.
In its review, DxOMark said that the Galaxy S23 Ultra is an all-rounder smartphone with consistent camera performance across the board (from the ultra-wide to the periscope camera). Photo rendering is excellent for a premium flagship device, where there’s a high level of detail preserved. Autofocus performance has been addressed this time, with consistent performance in both photo and video with most lighting conditions.
With all the praises DxOMark has for the Galaxy S23 Ultra, it notes that the phone does have its fair share of struggles when it comes to low-light shooting. Aside from noticeable shutter lag, there’s a loss of detail when shooting in low-light situations.
“Compared to the predecessor S22 Ultra, the Samsung engineers managed to achieve improvements in several areas, including video stabilization, slightly better zoom, noticeably better video exposure, and improved autofocus speed in bright light.”
