It involves supply and demand

One month since Uber closed shop for good, commuters have been complaining about Grab’s services. Whether it may be choosy drivers or exorbitantly expensive fares, it hasn’t been easy for Grab since then.

It was simply a matter of time before the ride-hailing service explain why it is hard to book a ride (some take hours before they get to book a ride via Grab). Their reason? It is a matter of supply and demand.

In a Facebook post, Grab explained since Uber ended its operations, the number of available cars on the road went down to 35,000 compared to 43,000—pre-Uber shutdown. The number of bookings remained constant at 600,000, resulting in a reduction of 19% in available cars.

Here’s an additional bad news: Since Grab failed to completely transition 6000 Uber cars, allocation of cars to commuters have dipped significantly: Down to 37% from 52% during peak hours, and down 53% from 64% during off-peak hours.

While it is a pressing problem, Grab launched is 100-day plan last week. The campaign aims to improve Grab’s services, starting with educating their drivers of proper conduct and courtesy to passengers. While it does not solve the supply vs. demand problem, Grab hopes that their campaign will help in reducing booking times and driver cancellations.

1. Book a GrabShare to free up more cars for your fellow commuters

2. Take advantage of GrabCar’s Multi-Stop Feature.

3. Plan your trips and book ahead of time to skip the rush hour.
